The Super Bowl Streak lives on, Clairton’s Tyler Boyd will represent the Big 33 Classic in Super Bowl 56

Its a streak that began when Northeast High School’s Herb Adderly, who played on the 1957 Big 33 team, suited up for the Green Bay Packers in the very first Super Bowl ever played. Since that day, 146 former Big 33 players have played in all 55 Super Bowls held. This year’s edition will have one player. Former Clairton star Tyler Boyd, who had perhaps one of the greatest Big 33 performances ever in the 2013 game, will line up with the Bengals. Noah Spence (PA 2012), who was selected but didn’t play in the game, is also on the Bengals practice squad.

In the 2013 Big 33 Classic, Boyd was a one man wrecking crew for Team PA. Boyd started the game returning the opening kickoff 91 yards for the score, then found the endzone four more times. His stat line was amazing. Boyd finished with 244 all-purpose yards, including 144 return yards and five receptions for 89 yards and two touchdowns, a rushing td and he pitched a perfect halfback toss to Bishop McDevitt’s Brian Lemelle that went for 68 yards.

The Rams’ Aaron Donald (PA 2019) and Jake Funk (Maryland 2015) were both selected but did not participate in the game.
