Garry Cathell

Garry Cathell has been involved with the Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association (PSFCA) for nearly four decades and has served as Executive Director of the PSFCA Big 33 since 2017. A graduate of Clairton High School, Garry was a three-sport athlete, competing in football, wrestling, and track and field. He went on to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), where his love for football and leadership continued to grow.

Before his current role, Garry dedicated 35 years to education, serving as a Physical and Driver Education teacher, Assistant Principal, and Dean of Students. His career included positions at Elizabeth Forward, Bethel Park, California University of Pennsylvania, West Point (VA), Peters Township, and Butler.

Garry is the proud father of two daughters, Casey and Stephanie, and the proud Pappy to his granddaughter, Lane. Though he has no direct hometown ties to Central Pennsylvania, he considers the lifelong relationships he’s built through the Big 33 and PSFCA to be his extended family. Outside of football, Garry enjoys shopping and spending time with family and friends.

He is passionate about continuing the mission of the Big 33—bringing together people who share a love for football and community service. Garry loves every aspect of his work, especially collaborating with great people and being surrounded by the game he loves. He is most excited about the continued growth and future of the Big 33 and PSFCA, as the organization expands its reach and impact across Pennsylvania and beyond.
