1967 Recap

Written by: Big 33 Staff on August 12, 1967.

Texas exploded for 16 points late in the second quarter on the way to a 45-14 romp over Pennsylvania at Hershey.

It was a bitter disappointment for a Coal Cracker defense that had held Texas without a first down for the first 20 minutes. Mistakes killed Pennsylvania as Texas turned three pass interceptions and a fumble recovery into touchdowns.

QB Bill Montgomery led a Texas passing attack that produced 25 completions and 297 yards. The Texan caught Pennsy by surprise by utilizing power back Steve Worster as a receiver. He had three catches for 83 yards and one TD. Montgomery, Randy Cooper, Derek Davis, Mitch Robertson, EImo Hodge and Paul Robicnau scored the other TDs for the Texans.

End Bill Pilconis and running back Jim Braxton scored for Pennsylvania, which got 336 yards in total offense but lacked the knockout punch.
