It was a great night for the “Little People” as a couple of 160-pound stars led the East to a 15-0 victory over the West before almost 20,000 at Hershey.

Chuck Vennie, a 5-9 running back from Harrisburg, scored the East initial TD on a two-yard run. Carlisle’s Jimmy Scott caught a 50-yard pass from Steve Joachim for the second.

Middletown’s Cliff Brown kicked a 38-yard field goal in the first quarter. The East got a break early in the second quarter when Jeff Slemmer recovered a West fumble in the end zone. They got another one when George Whary recovered another fumble at the West 24. There were only 35 seconds left in the half when Vennie took a pitchout from Brown to make it 9-0 at the half.

John Cappelletti, who would later win the Heisman Trophy as a tailback at Penn State, carried the ball once for two yards. He spent most of the night as a defensive back.
