The East took a 7-0 lead when Leroy Hughes of Central Dauphin capped a 43-yard drive with a one-yard plunge. Chambersburg’s Walt Watson added field goals of 36 and 26 yards to make it 13-0 at the end of the period.

Chuck Fiorante’s passing got the West back in the game. He completed two for 42 yards as Thompson went a yard for his first score. Fiorante completed three passes on the next drive, with Gary Snowden scoring from the two. A two-point try failed and the East led by 13-12 at the half.

John Reinher’s 34-yard field goal gave the West its first lead. After the West recovered a fumble, Thompson went over from the two to make it 21-13. Chuck Barswell went two yards after still another East fumble and it was 28-13 going into the final period.
