Ernie Washington’s seven yard run with 3:09 to play gave Ohio All-Stars an 11-7 victory over the Pennsylvania Big 33 at Hershey.
Pennsylvania had taken a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on an 18-yard pass from Jim Villani of Bethlehem Liberty to Mike Guman of Bethlehem Catholic. The TD pass came after a fumble recovery by Steve Stuphar of West Mifflin. Herb Menhardt’s placement completed Pennsylvania’s scoring.
Ohio got on the board in the second quarter when Mike Hubach of Cleveland booted a 40-yard field goal. The Ohio team missed another scoring opportunity late in the first half when Charles Grandjean dropped a pass in the end zone after the Buckeyes had moved to the Penn 23.
Pennsylvania lost a chance to pad its lead when the Keystone entry fumbled early in the final period and Jim Ritcher recovered for Ohio at the 28.
Ohio then moved 72 yards on nine plays. QB Jeff Houseman ran twice for 13 yards and completed two passes for 28 more. He also passed to Grandjean for two points after the touchdown.
Although Penn had Guman, Matt Suhey and Bill McLee, the Keystoners were held to 34 yards rushing and 35 passing on a slippery turf that didn’t seem to bother Ohio with 239 yards total offense.
