The 65th annual PSFCA Big 33 weekend came to a close this week as team Pennsylvania took down team Maryland 28-7 for the third straight time and seventh time in the last nine games.

Team Pennsylvania got on the scoreboard early Monday afternoon. The dynamic Mount Lebanon trio of Alex Tecza, Eli Heidenreich, and Joey Daniels carried the team down the field before Daniels connected with Heidenreich from 10 yards out. Nathan Kirkwood nailed the pat giving Pennsylvania the early 7-0 lead. Daniels would finish the day with 104 yards passing and a touchdown. Heidenreich caught four passes for 96 yards and a score and Tecza led the trio with 126 all-purpose yards and a touchdown.

“These past few days have been really cool, getting to know these dudes and forming a bond. You could see it on the field, we were playing with each other and for each other, it was a fun game. It’s bittersweet that we won and I had a good game, but it’s sad it’s the last time I get to play with my Lebo guys but I am looking forward to flipping that page and playing at Navy,” said Heidenreich.

The Mount Lebanon trio were not the only players to make huge plays. The entire Pennsylvania defense let up just 132 yards and a touchdown through the game. Anchoring the defense was star defensive end, Keon Wylie. Wylie is committed to Penn State and he was even named the Pennsylvania team MVP. He finished with two tackles, one pass breakup, and a sack. Also, for the defense was Lebron Bessick who intercepted Maryland’s Jayden Sauray in the third quarter.

For team Maryland, wide receiver Terrez Worthy won the MVP. Worthy finished the game with almost 100 kick return yards.

Team Pennsylvania would find the end zone once more before halftime. Ethan Kohler scrambled in from 9 yards out. Kirkwood nailed the pat giving Pennsylvania a 14-0 halftime lead.

Pennsylvania would open the second half scoring when Tecza bounced his way in from 10 yards out. Kirkwood again nailed the pat giving Pennsylvania a 21-0 lead. On the following Maryland possession, Jayden Sauray found Dadrian Carter-Williams for a 46-yard touchdown strike. Andrew Petrino made the pat making the score 21-7 team Pennsylvania.

Devin Whitlcok capped off the scoring for the game with a four-yard keeper with 8:22 to go in the game. Kirkwood’s kick was good making the final score of the ball game 28-7 team Pennsylvania.

Head coach John Franco gave a lot of credit to his coaching staff after the game, “It was a great football game and the game was a lot closer than the score, our assistant coaches are so outstanding and did a fantastic job. They allow players to shine and our guys overcame a lot such as the heat and the great Maryland team. I’m so proud of them and our staff and proud to be a part of Pennsylvania.”
