Big 33 Super Bowl streak guaranteed to continue in 2022!

Written by: Billy Splain on January 27, 2022.

Its a streak that began when Northeast High School’s Herb Adderly, who played on the 1957 Big 33 team, suited up for the Green Bay Packers in the very first Super Bowl ever played. Since that day, 146 former Big 33 players have played in all 55 Super Bowls held. This year’s edition will be guaranteed at least one player.

When the 49ers and Rams meet, two Big 33 alum will be on the field. Playing for the Niners are Big 33 players Kevin Givens (PA 2015) and Robbie Gould (PA 2000) will represent the game. Gould had the game winning field goal last week for the Niners.

The Rams’ Aaron Donald (PA 2019) and Jake Funk (Maryland 2015) were both selected but did not participate in the game. Even if the Bengals lose, the streak is guaranteed to have at least two former players on the field.

When the Chiefs play the Bengals, Tyler Boyd, who had perhaps one of the greatest Big 33 performances ever in the 2013 game, will line up with the Bengals. Noah Spence (PA 2012), who was selected but didn’t play in the game, is also on the Bengals practice squad.

On the other side of the ball there’s a whole host of former Big 33 players. Players Frank Clark (OH 2011), Chad Henne (PA 2004) and Chris Jones (PA 2013) will suit up while Chiefs’ General Manager Brett Veach (PA 1997) and assistant coach AQ Shipley (PA 2003) will represent the game on the sidelines.

We are proud that the greatest streak in sports history will continue, and we’re excited to see which of the above will represent our great game and continue the tradition!
